How To Part Your Hair, The Right Way

2018 is the year for experimenting with your hair. Everyone’s hair will fall into a natural parting, but it is time to switch it up. You would be surprised how much a hairstyle can change your overall look, why not try something different- carry on reading to find out the three main parting methods to choose from.

Middle Parting

This hairstyle is best for:

Perhaps the most popular parting of 2018, nearly everyone is rocking the middle parting. However, some are still scared to take the plunge. It is the quickest of styles and requires little effort in order to get it to look sleek. This style is most suited to round faces as the hair either side of your face will elongate your features making you appear less rounded, but anyone will look great. With this parting, you can have a range of styles whether that be slick straight, flirty curly or in a low pony- the possibilities are endless.

How to do it:

Pick up your favourite comb, start in the middle of your face/eyebrows and pull the comb back in as straight of a line as possible to separate the hair. If you find you have one side of the hair higher than the other, simply wet the hair slightly then blowdry it flat. The more you do this your hair will learn to sit in the parting smoothly.

Side Parting

This hairstyle is best for:

The classic side parting is often a common memory of childhood for many. It often portrays the ‘girl next door’ vibe, but depending on how the rest of the hair is styled you can change it from young to edgy pretty quickly. The most suited face shape to this style is square or diamond as it shows off their facial features and angles perfectly.

How to do it:

You can have the side parting either side of the face, once decided where you want it, place a comb in the centre of a single eyebrow and draw the comb back to separate the hair. However, depending on the overall look you are going for you could even do this with your fingers for a more casual look. To make your parting extra voluminous, why not do the parting on the opposite side to normal?

TIP: The slick side part is a good cover up for those greasy hair days!

Far Side Parting

This hairstyle is best for:

Why not take the side parting one step higher and go further over the head. Commonly seen on the red carpet, there is no wonder as this hairstyle shows off cheekbones, neck and collarbones. Face Shapes most suitable are rounded (again, it elongates the face) and heart as it softens features and accentuates the jaw. Paired with loose curls, the far side parting is ideal for any party occasion.

How to do it:

For this look, take your comb and position it on the tail of the eyebrow then draw it back. Any further than the end of your eyebrow may be too far, therefore always use your brows as a guide. As most people do not wear a far side part on a day to day, therefore the hair can fall forward… not to worry! Some simple styling will do the trick. Seal the hair by using hairspray, our favourite is Schwarzkopf Professional Osis+ Session Label Super Dry Fix - Strong Hold Hairspray.
